How to use
Essential oils can be used in a variety of ways on the skin and body, each method offering unique benefits. All of them must be diluted in carrier oil though a few can be used directly on the skin but not recommended. At Aroma Origins, we highly discourage using them internally. Below is a explanation of the methods:
1. Topical Application
- How: Dilute essential oils in a carrier oil (e.g., coconut, jojoba) and apply to specific areas (e.g., temples for headaches, joints for pain).
- Purpose: Targeted relief for skin issues, muscle aches, or localized inflammation.
- Note: Always dilute (1–5% concentration) to avoid irritation. Avoid sensitive areas like eyes/mucous membranes.
2. Inhalation
- Aromatherapy Inhaler: Add a few drops 5-8 drops all depends on the needs to make an inhaler, use it when you are in need.
- Diffusers: Add water and oils to disperse aroma into the air. Add 2-3 drops per 40ml/3-8 drops per 100ml of essential oil (single or synergy blend) of water for diffusing in an open, well-ventilated area. Diffuse in 30-45 minute intervals with around 30mins break between session for safe and effectiveness. Avoid to diffuse if baby & pets stay around.
- Steam Inhalation: Add 2–3 drops to hot water, inhale steam (e.g., peppermint for sinus relief).
- Direct Sniffing: From an inhaler or a tissue.
- Purpose: Mood enhancement, respiratory support, focus, mental clarity, and more.
3. Body Massage
- How: Mix 6–12 drops of essential oil per ounce of carrier oil. Use in massages to relax muscles or improve circulation. Regularly, 6 drops in 15ml carrier oils should be cover enough for the whole body.
- Purpose: Combines aromatherapy with physical therapy for stress relief, pain reduction, or skincare.
4. Ointments/Creams/Lotions
- How: Blend essential oils into a base (e.g., shea butter, beeswax) at 1–3% concentration.
- Purpose: Moisturizing, hydrating, treating dry skin, soothing/restoring skin barrier or addressing conditions like eczema (e.g., tea tree oil in creams for acne).
5. Baths
- Dilute First: Essential oils are unable to mix with water, so must dilute 5–10 drops in a dispersant (e.g., 1 tbsp carrier oil, milk, or Epsom salts) before adding to bathwater, otherwise, it will cause to skin irritation.
-
Soak Time: at least 15–20 minutes to absorb benefits.
