Thickeners & Gums

Thickeners and gums are used in skincare formulations to stabilize emulsions, improve texture, and extend product shelf life. In natural cosmetics, hydrophilic thickeners help maintain consistency by adjusting viscosity and preventing separation — which is why they are often referred to as stabilizers.

Beyond emulsions, certain gums can also create gel textures, though not all are effective on their own. Because gums are highly active even at small amounts, it is recommended to start with low concentrations when thickening or stabilizing a formula.
