Thickeners & Gums
Thickeners and gums are ingredients added to an emulsion to help improve and maintain the stability and shelf-life of dispersions, or, more simply, to keep the product stable and avoid its This is why we also call them stabilizers. In natural cosmetics, we usually use hydrophilic ingredients that stabilize the system by modifying the viscosity of the emulsion. Gums are also used to create gels, although not all of them can be used for this purpose alone. It is highly recommended to start at a low percentage when working with gums to thicken or stabilize a formula.
