Green Surfactants
Green surfactants can be synthesized using sources such as triglycerides, such as palm kernel oil and coconut oil; carbohydrates, such as sugar beet, molasses, hemicellulose, and inulin; and organic acids produced by fermentation. They are usually readily biodegradable and show very good skin compatibility, causing less skin irritation than traditional foam agents. They are mild, biocompatible, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly foam agents that are obtained from nature or by the use of renewable raw materials for their synthesis. They are commonly used in formulations such as shampoos and shower gels to act as cleansing agents.
