Aroma Origins’s (AO) Natural Fragrance offers two types of natural fragrance – Plant-Based Fragrance Oils and Essential Oils. They each have their own characteristics to meet the needs of different customers.
Essential Oils
Essential oils are volatile compounds, characterized by a strong odor, that have been used for centuries for medical and cosmetic purposes. Essential oils are formed by aromatic plants as secondary metabolites and can occur in all plant organs. Aromatic plants can also undergo processes of extraction with organic solvents, producing concretes, absolutes, or resinoids, or with liquid carbon dioxide, producing CO2 extracts. They are all-natural plant-derived with no additives, fillers, and toxic-free natural medicinal.
AO’s Essential Oils are whole essential oils as 100% Natural Sources of Fragrance Compounds. While plant-based fragrance oils are produced using only pure essential oils and aromatic isolates derived solely from natural, raw botanical sources. We find that the more a natural product gets processed down (in this case, to one single component), the more value it loses. This is why we prefer whole essential oils and go to great lengths to ensure minimal processing occurs between the plant stage and the essential oil stage. With minimally invasive processing, we’re able to obtain highly therapeutic essential oils with beautiful, complex aromas, and this is something that isolates/plant-based fragrance oils simply cannot offer.
Essential oils present a wide range of properties, such as bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal, anti-parasitical and insecticidal, analgesic, sedative, anti-inflammatory, and local anesthetic effects. Those biological activities presented by Essential Oils are important in cosmetology as they can help to relieve many skin conditions through anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties among others and to protect the skin against oxidative damage and aging processes through anti-oxidative properties. Thus, one of the most popular ingredients in various skincare formulations and has proven its alarming healing functions.

Our Plant-Based Fragrance Oils are certified to be free of synthetic ingredients. They are suitable for use in personal care and home fragrancing applications where cost-effective fragrance is required and synthetic ingredients are not desired. We do not, however, recommend these oils for use in aromatherapy applications and formulations. Essential oils and natural aromatic isolates are highly concentrated aroma chemicals. Therefore, our Plant-Based Fragrance Oils are not necessarily milder, safer, or less allergenic than synthetic fragrances or essential oils. All fragrance oils and essential oils should be properly diluted before use.
Our Plant-Based Fragrance Oils can be used in a wide range of personal care products, soap-making, and candle-making applications but are not proper for any aromatherapy projects as they don’t have therapeutic properties. And maybe more challenging to work with than synthetic fragrance oils because they do not contain synthetic stabilizers. In that regard, they may be similar to Essential Oils in the challenges they present when formulating natural personal care products.
