Chamomile Powder Extract is known for its soothing and calming properties because it contains powerful antioxidants including polyphenols and phytochemicals that help to reduce signs of aging by protecting the skin from free radical damage. It accelerates cell and tissue renewal, reducing the appearance of fine lines and giving skin a youthful glow.  It is effective when used to treat skin conditions such as acne, eczema, rashes, dermatitis and allergic reactions.

Comfrey contains compounds called pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which can be toxic when ingested. Consider how you apply comfrey in your formulations as you may not want to incorporate it into lip balms, for instance. Comfrey should not be applied to broken skin, for this reason.

FORMULATION GUIDE

Recommended Usage Rate: 0.1 – 2%

Formulation method: (may need to revise according to the supplier’s guideline in the end)

1.Add the powder to distilled water or hydrosols at a ratio of 0.5% powder to 99.5% distilled water or hydrosols ready to use (since this water-based, add appropriate preservative is required for long term storage)
2.Sprinkle the xanthan gum over the water and whisk in well to thicken
3.Add the powder and whisk in until fully dissolved and incorporate into your homemade skin formulation
4.The powder can be solubilised in water or hydrosols to create a solution. In other words, it does not form a gel. If you wish to have a gel-like appearance when using the powder in cosmetics’ formulation, you should add a gelling agent such as xanthan gum.
5.For shampoos, creams, and other thick products, mix 5-10 ml of hot water into the powdered extract until it dissolves, then should be added to the cool down phase of the formulation at around 45˚C – 50˚C.
6.For mists, toners, and other products that are almost entirely water: There is no need to dissolve the extract before adding it to the product.
Incorporate into formula, amount as desired. Common use levels are 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon per pound of base. Test your final product to insure optimal performance and no staining.
